Garden School’s Commitment to Kindness and Connection at Our Community and Campus

At Garden School, we believe in the power of community—both within our school walls and in the surrounding Jackson Heights neighborhood. From the moment you step onto our campus, you’ll notice the relaxed and friendly atmosphere that defines the culture of our school. This welcoming environment fosters a sense of belonging and emphasizes values like kindness, responsibility, and citizenship.

Our students aren’t just learning academic concepts—they’re learning to be compassionate and responsible individuals. Through clubs, activities, and school-wide projects, they engage with each other and with the world around them. Whether participating in local community service initiatives or traveling on field trips to neighboring states or even international destinations, students gain a deeper understanding of the importance of being involved and making a difference.

One of the core values of Garden School is the idea of service learning. From the nursery level through high school, students are encouraged to give back to the community. Parents play an essential role in this effort by volunteering time and skills, helping to enrich daily school life and ensure the success of school-wide initiatives, often coordinated by the PTA.

Our Campus: A Nurturing and Secure Environment

Garden School’s campus, located in the historic district of Jackson Heights, provides a safe, secure, and enriching environment for students to learn and grow. Our peaceful, tree-lined block on 79th Street is home to a fully-enclosed campus that occupies half of the block. Since moving to this location in 1928, we’ve continued to expand and improve our facilities to better meet the needs of our students.

State-of-the-Art Facilities for Every Student

Our campus features a range of facilities that support our comprehensive curriculum and extracurricular programs:

  • Spacious Classrooms: All classrooms are well-lit and fully-equipped with modern amenities, including Smart Boards where appropriate.

  • A Renovated Library: With over 11,600 volumes and internet-ready computer stations, our library serves as an essential resource for research and academic projects.

  • Science Labs: Two well-equipped science labs provide hands-on learning opportunities for our students.

  • Technology Center: Our dedicated computer center supports technology instruction for grades 1-6, and is equipped with IBM-compatible PCs, internet access, and printers.

  • Art Room: A fully-stocked art room with a pottery kiln encourages creativity, and students learn from world-renowned artists and fine art media.

  • Performance Stage: A full-sized stage with lighting, sound, and technical systems hosts performances throughout the year.

  • On-Site Dining: Our kitchen and dining room serve healthy hot and cold lunches daily. A pre-paid meal plan is available, or students can bring their own lunch.

  • Early Childhood Center: Dedicated to providing a focused early childhood experience for our youngest learners.

  • Sports Facilities: A large, air-conditioned gymnasium, outdoor swimming pool, and fully-enclosed asphalt playing field ensure students stay active and healthy.

  • Transportation: Garden School offers door-to-door transportation through a fleet of private school buses.
